JThe Biden administration has a lot of nerve in proposing to double the Internal Revenue Service budget and add 87,000 employees.
This plan is expected to become law as part of the soon to be enacted Inflation Reduction Act. And it comes around the same time as the FBI’s outrageous raid on former President Donald Trump’s compound in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. The Biden administration has converted the FBI and the Justice Department into functionaries of the Democratic Party’s smear campaign. Think they’ll do the same with a Yankee Stadium full of new IRS auditors? They will participate in search and destroy missions.
Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) condescendingly dismisses any concerns about taxpayer abuse, saying, “If you’re not cheating on your taxes, you have nothing to worry about.”
It is the language of tyrants. I personally lived through a three-year dispute with the IRS that cost me tens of thousands of dollars in attorney and tax accountant fees – until the IRS snoopers made a ” Oops, we’re sorry, we got it wrong. Have a nice day.” When you are investigated by the IRS and the agency places a lien on your bank account, you are guilty until proven innocent.
Conservatives have not (or should not have forgotten) the outrageous militarization of the tax collection agency under President Barack Obama. Obama’s political appointee, Lois Lerner, has targeted the Tea Party and other taxpayer groups with a conservative orientation. An accident? Incidentally, the Obama team never even apologized and Lois Lerner refrained from testifying before Congress. She never went to jail.
Now the people of Openthebooks.com report that the IRS is armed with real weapons – guns, ammunition and military equipment.
“The Internal Revenue Service, with its 2,159 “special agents,” spent $21.3 million on weapons, ammunition, and military-type equipment between fiscal years 2006 and 2019. The agency stockpiled 4,500 weapons and five million rounds.”
Of the 87,000 new officers, how many will be armed? And why does a tax collection agency need guns, anyway?
This story gets more sordid the deeper we dig. The IRS Employees Union is donating 99% of its money to Democrats. This scam to give the taxman tens of billions of dollars will funnel millions of dollars into the coffers of Democratic candidates. Does anyone believe that an agency that gives almost every dollar of its PAC to one party is an impartial arbiter of our tax system?
I hope no one thinks it’s to get more money from Bill Gates or Warren Buffett or Mark Zuckerberg. These billionaires have their own armies of tax accountants and lawyers. They have the resources to defend themselves against erroneous tax rulings from the IRS.
Senate Republicans have proposed an amendment to this dreadful bill that would have limited new audits to those earning more than $400,000. Every Democrat said no.
Indeed, the geese they will pluck are helpless small business owners and people earning between $75,000 and $250,000 in income. My friend Dan Pilla, who is one of the IRS’ abuse experts, discovered that the IRS tries to discourage taxpayers from hiring a lawyer or going to court to get their money back.
Once upon a time, liberals cared about government violations of citizens’ civil rights. Once upon a time there was an American Civil Liberties Union that marched through the streets against greater government scrutiny of every financial transaction people made. Now they are silent, because the modern ACLU and other similar groups are completely captured by the big socialists in government.
If you have a conservative voice in this country or if you are affiliated with the Republican Party or donate to Republican candidates, they are going after you. Maybe soon.
Perhaps worst of all in this vault of cash handed over to 150,000 tax officials is that Democrats voted for more money for police to stop rampant crime. They dismissed more Border Patrol agents to help ward off drug dealers, criminals and coyotes. They refuse to fund the army so that our armed forces can recruit the soldiers and personnel we need for our national security.
We could fund all of these things with a fraction of the money that top Democrats like President Joe Biden, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA ) want to spend on tax agents.
These are the most distorted funding priorities I have seen in 30 years. The IRS may soon be knocking on your door. And yes, they are here from the government. But no, they are not there to help you.
